In order to earn your credential, you have to pass an exam that demonstrates your knowledge of green building practices and the LEED rating systems. Depending on eligibility requirements and your career path, you have two exam options:
- Pass the LEED Green Associate exam, or
- Pass a LEED AP Specialty exam
In addition to passing one of those exams, you will have to:
- Agree to the LEED Disciplinary Policy, and
- Agree to the Credential Maintenance Program
Now I’m sure you have more questions about these things. See below for some answers:

Hi Pat,
If i have not worked on any leed certified projects nor am i working on such projects but would like to genuinely give the LEED exam. Is it possible to appear for it then too?
Your only option, per the current rules, are to take the Green Associate exam, not the LEED AP exam, since that requires working on a LEED registered project.
There are also eligibility requirements for the GA exam, however it’s a lot easier to qualify. Here is a link for eligibility requirements for the Green Associate Exam:

Thanks, and best of luck to you.
Say I have mechanical degree and have been out of work. I had been trying to learn efficient energy use in homes and build a business. Before I worked in aerospace. How can I take the LEED without an employer in this field?
